When recovering refrigerant from a non-operating refrigerator, you want a clean, unrestricted path for the refrigerant to move from the appliance into the recovery unit. Having both a high-side and a low-side access valve creates a complete circuit between the appliance and the recovery equipment. This setup lets the recovery machine draw refrigerant from the high-pressure side while also providing a path on the low-pressure side, so vapor and liquid can be removed more freely.

Because the flow isn’t limited to a single path, the refrigerant moves faster and more completely, boosting recovery speed and overall efficiency. Using only one side can leave liquid or vapor trapped and slows the process, so two valves on a non-operating unit give a real advantage in how quickly and how much refrigerant you can recover.
